A Nursery for Shawbury Families
Twenty minutes west, in the rural countryside
Shawbury is at the further edge of our catchment — about 20 minutes west via Myddle. We're writing this page for the families who've specifically considered driving the extra distance to Bojangles, because in some cases the reasons line up well, and in some cases they don't.
The journey from Shawbury
We're about ten miles west of Shawbury. The most direct route is via the B5063 and the lanes through Myddle, taking 18 to 22 minutes depending on traffic on the A49 crossing. The drive itself is on quiet country roads.
For families whose week takes them west — toward the A5, Oswestry, Mid-Wales, or out to north-west Shropshire — the drop-off can sit naturally on the route. For families commuting east or south, the geography is less helpful.
When Bojangles works for Shawbury families
We don't pretend to be the right answer for every Shawbury family. Local nurseries are usually more convenient. The cases where families drive west to us are usually:
- Year-round full-day cover. Many local options close at 4pm or run term-time-only patterns. We're 8am to 6pm, 48 weeks a year.
- Baby Room provision. If you're returning to work with a child under 18 months, your local choices narrow.
- Setting preference. The Walford Campus grounds give us extensive outdoor space — for some families, that's the deciding factor.
- Shift-work flexibility. We accommodate non-standard working patterns where we can, including part-time bookings, stretched funded hours, and irregular weeks.
We accept all government-funded childcare hours, including the 30-hour entitlement for working parents from 9 months.
About Shawbury and the families we know
Shawbury is a village on the B5063 north-east of Shrewsbury, with the River Roden running through and a parish church that's been there since the 12th century. The village has its own primary school, a strong cricket club, an active village hall calendar, and the kind of community where people still know each other's children by name. Just outside the village is RAF Shawbury, the home of UK military helicopter and air-traffic-control training, which gives the area a distinctive demographic mix and shapes some of the working patterns we see.
For most Shawbury families, local nurseries and the village pre-school are the natural fit. The families who travel to Bojangles tend to be ones whose work takes them west — toward Shrewsbury, Oswestry, or out to the Welsh border — or who have specific needs that local settings don't cover: true Baby Room provision under 18 months, full-year cover for shift-pattern working parents, or a country-grounds setting their child can settle into as a smaller cohort. We're an 18 to 22 minute drive, which makes us a deliberate choice rather than a default.
For families on shift or non-standard patterns — not unusual locally — we work flexibly within reason: regular shift weeks, alternating fortnight cycles, term-time-only arrangements. We're honest about what doesn't work too: ad-hoc daily booking and irregular weeks are harder to plan around.
School transitions in the Shawbury area
From Pre-School, Shawbury families typically move children on to Shawbury Primary or one of the village primaries closer to home. We share learning records with each receiving school. The geographic distance does mean a fresh peer group at school, so we work harder on the social side of pre-school readiness for children moving to a school we don't feed regularly.

Frequently asked questions
About ten miles, typically a 18 to 22 minute drive via the B5063 and the lanes through Myddle. It's a longer journey than most of our catchment villages, but easy driving with no major junctions.
Yes — Shawbury and the surrounding area are well-served by local settings, particularly if you need term-time-only or shorter-day cover. We tend to suit Shawbury families specifically when they need year-round full daycare, baby room provision under age 2, or a rural setting that prioritises outdoor time. If your needs are simpler, a closer nursery is often the better practical choice.
We try to. Our standard pattern is full-day attendance Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, but we work flexibly with families on shift patterns or non-standard weeks. We can stretch funded hours across more weeks at fewer hours per week, and we accommodate part-time bookings of 2 to 4 days a week subject to availability. Talk to us about what would actually work for your week.
Availability shifts week by week as families confirm starts and as children move between rooms. Please call 01939 260006 or message through the website to confirm what's currently open in the room you need before booking a visit.
