Day Nursery in Baschurch

Family-run childcare on the Walford Campus, in our village since 1994

Bojangles is a small, family-run day nursery in Baschurch, providing year-round childcare for children from a few months old up to age five. We've been part of the village since 1994, on the Walford Campus on the edge of Baschurch, long enough to have welcomed two generations of some local families.

This page sets out where we are, how we're set up, and the kinds of families we tend to suit best — so you can decide quickly whether it's worth coming to look around.

Bojangles in Baschurch

Bojangles is a purpose-built nursery on the Walford Campus, set in the Shropshire countryside on the edge of the village. The campus shares its grounds with Walford & North Shropshire College, which means our children grow up surrounded by green space, gardens, and the calm of a semi-rural setting — while still being five minutes from the heart of Baschurch.

We're registered for 35 places across three rooms, and we're staffed by a settled team of nine qualified practitioners holding qualifications from Level 3 through to Level 7 (graduate and postgraduate level). Bojangles is registered with Ofsted under URN EY370743 and was rated Good across all areas at our most recent inspection in January 2022 — we treat that as the standard a well-run nursery should consistently meet rather than something to coast on. Several of the team have been with us for ten years or more, and all our staff are trained in basic sign language to support communication with younger children.

Being a small, independent nursery in Baschurch means decisions about your child's care happen quickly and locally. There's no corporate office, no remote management chain — if you need to talk to the person making the decisions, they're here.

Three rooms, three stages

Children at Bojangles move through three rooms as they grow, each set up around the developmental stage of the children in it. Rooms link to one another through outdoor space and shared corridors, so transitions between rooms happen gradually and with the same key staff already familiar.

Baby Room (0–2)

A quiet, sensory-rich space for our youngest children, with a small dedicated team and a 1:3 staff-to-child ratio for under-2s. Each baby is assigned a key person who builds a close relationship with the family and follows the home routine as closely as possible during settling-in.

Toddler Room (2–3)

A vibrant room where independence really starts to bloom. Children spend large stretches outdoors, run up and over the grass hills, push along on ride-on toys, and begin early language and number play through sand, water and storytelling.

Pre-School Room (3–5)

Our oldest children prepare for school with a focus on storytelling, early phonics, mathematical language, and the social skills that make a confident reception start. We work closely with the local primary schools, so children move on already knowing the structure of a school day.

For more on each room's daily rhythm and what your child would actually do here, see Our Rooms.

Childcare in Baschurch and the SY4 area

When parents in Baschurch start searching — whether they type “day nursery Baschurch”, “nursery in Baschurch”, or just “childcare SY4” into Google — they're usually looking for a few specific things: who's registered nearby, who takes their child's age group, who accepts funded hours, and what the practical day looks like.

Bojangles is the main full-day registered nursery in central Baschurch, on the SY4 2HL postcode at Walford Campus. We serve the wider SY4 postcode area — SY4 2 (Baschurch and immediately surrounding rural lanes), SY4 1 (Bomere Heath direction), SY4 3 (Wem and the A49 corridor), SY4 4 (Hadnall and Shawbury direction), and the SY4 5/6 postcodes covering the villages further east and south. Our families come from across that postcode and beyond, including some from neighbouring SY postcodes and the SY1, SY2, and SY3 Shrewsbury postcodes.

We take children from a few months old through to school age, accept all government-funded entitlements, and run the same setting all year round. If you're newly searching the area, we'd encourage you to look at us alongside other Baschurch options — the village has more than one childcare setting and the right answer depends on your week.

We also occasionally welcome families from further afield in north-west Shropshire — including Ellesmere (SY12), Gobowen, and the villages along the Welsh border. The drive from Ellesmere is around 30 minutes via the A528, which makes it a deliberate choice rather than a convenience one; families who do come tend to share a specific need that local Ellesmere settings don't cover.

The kinds of families Bojangles tends to suit

Baschurch has more than one childcare setting, and that's a good thing — different families need different things. Rather than tell you we're right for everyone, here's where Bojangles tends to be a particularly good fit:

  • Working parents who need full days. We open at 8am and close at 6pm, Monday to Friday. If you need somewhere your child can be for a working day rather than a morning session, we're built for that.
  • Families with babies and young toddlers. Many local pre-schools start at age 2 or 3. Our Baby Room takes children from a few months old, so younger siblings can stay with the same setting until they start school.
  • Families who need year-round cover. We're open 48 weeks a year, including most school holidays. If both parents work outside teaching, term-time-only care often doesn't add up.
  • Families who value outdoor time. The Walford Campus grounds give us extensive outdoor space, and our approach is nature-led — children play outside in almost all weathers, with proper kit.
  • Families who want a small, settled team. With 35 places and a long-tenured team, your child's key person is someone who knows them. There's no rotation through anonymous shifts.

If you primarily need term-time-only mornings, or if you're looking for a school nursery class, other settings in the area may suit better. If you're not sure, come and look anyway — we'll tell you straight if we're not right for you.

Visiting us in Baschurch

We're on the Walford Campus, just outside the centre of Baschurch off the A528. Most parents drive in — there's plenty of parking on site, and the journey is straightforward whether you're coming from Shrewsbury, Wem, Oswestry direction, or one of the surrounding villages. For Shrewsbury families specifically, we've set out drive times and the case for the journey on our nursery near Shrewsbury page.

  • Address: Walford Campus, Walford & North Shropshire College, Baschurch, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, SY4 2HL
  • Phone: 01939 260006
  • Email: info@bojanglesnursery.co.uk
  • Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am–6:00pm
  • Open: 48 weeks a year (closed Easter week, last two weeks of August, the week containing Christmas and Boxing Day, and bank holidays)

Visits typically last 30 to 45 minutes. You'll see all three rooms, meet the manager and at least one of the room leaders, and have time to ask anything you want. We always recommend bringing your child along — their reaction to the rooms tells you more than any tour can.

Nursery fees and funded hours in Baschurch

Our standard daily fee is £60.00 per day for a full 8am to 6pm session, with breakfast, lunch, tea and snacks all included. Half days aren't currently offered — all sessions are full-day. On funded-only days (when government-funded hours cover the childcare itself), we apply a separate £10.00 meals and consumables charge per day, because government funding doesn't cover food. There are no registration fees or hidden extras.

We accept every government-funded childcare entitlement currently available in England:

  • 30 hours per week for working parents, from the term after your child turns 9 months until they start school
  • 15 universal hours per week for every 3 and 4-year-old, regardless of income or working status
  • 15 hours per week for 2-year-olds whose families receive qualifying benefits
  • Tax-Free Childcare, which adds a 20% government top-up to your nursery payments

For a full breakdown of fees, what's included, and how the meals charge on funded-only days works, see our Fees page. For a deeper look at the 30-hour entitlement specifically — eligibility, how to apply, and what the funded place looks like at Bojangles — see our 30 hours free childcare in Baschurch page. If you're still working out which entitlement you qualify for, our parents' guide to funded childcare hours in Shropshire walks through it in plain English.
